Cleora School district does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education program and activities.
We want you to know that the health and safety of your children and our staff is our number one priority. Our school board and I have thoroughly discussed the potential risks and the necessary steps to implement should there be any significant developments. We will continue to use proven methods of cleaning and prevention, as well as stay up to date through frequent communication with local, state, and federal sources. We have attached some useful links for you as well. We are committed to keeping you informed and working with you to keep our school community safe and healthy.
Yours in education, Kenny Guthrie Superintendent

**UPDATED Information** - Phone Call message 03/27/2020: Update Click Here to read the details. This letter contains details for our Continuous Distance Learning Plan for the remaining school year. The CDLP will begin April 6, 2020. Our last day of school will be May 8, 2020.
Today, we learned that Oklahoma students will not return to the classroom for the remainder of the current school year, following a vote by the state Board of Education. Instead, districts, including Cleora, will implement continuous learning plans that will allow students to complete the school year at home. State education and health officials believe this move will help our state fight the spread of COVID-19.
We are sharing this information with you now so you can prepare accordingly for your family. We understand this change is in the best interest of everyone's health, which is our greatest priority as a district. The state board's vote also means that all extracurricular activities and special events will be canceled or postponed as well. Making these difficult decisions, we believe, is simply the right thing to do for our students, our staff and our community.
I do have good news: Our amazing staff has already started developing a plan to ensure your child will continue to have opportunities to learn and to grow academically, especially with parental support. Because we are unable to safely gather together, these lessons and activities will primarily be delivered and communicated through a variety of methods such as online through Edgenuity, Google Classroom, IXL, Zoom, and other digital resources. We will also be utilizing paper packets for some grades and classes. Our teachers will be in contact with your child, as well as you, on a regular basis through various methods such as Zoom, video, email, or phone. As you can imagine, this is a significant transition for our students and our teachers. The Cleora staff and I will continue spending the next several days planning our efforts and will share those details with your family as soon as they are available. I can't say enough great things about our staff, nor can I thank them enough for their attention and efforts up to this point! The Cleora School Board and I have met several times and are staying in close contact throughout this time. I can't say enough wonderful things about their leadership and the support they are displaying for our school, staff, and community! A special "Thank You" to our board members!
For students, it likely will be a sad and disappointing time to receive confirmation that school as they know it will not resume this year. Please give them a safe place to express their feelings and to vent about the changes in their life. For our eighth graders and their parents, we know it is an especially difficult time. Even though this will cause them to miss out on some very important moments, please remind them of all the special moments they were part of and the memories they help create while attending Cleora. Celebrate those things! This is an unfair situation, but please reassure them that it does not diminish their achievements. In fact, it will become one more example of how they demonstrated their strength and determination as a Cardinal!!
We have posted numerous resources on our website, including information about free breakfasts and lunches for students under the age of 18, which will continue. You can find these details and more by visiting www.cleora.net <http://www.cleora.net>. The site also includes recommendations from the CDC about protecting your health and the health of your loved ones. We ask you to please follow their advice by: (1) washing your hands regularly; (2) staying at home, if you can; and (3) practicing social distancing of at least six feet from others.
This is an unprecedented situation, and it has required an unprecedented response. We can still take care of Cleora's students, though. I know this is a community that strongly supports their school at all times, and I know this experience will be no different. As soon as we identify our next steps, I will share them with you.
Please stay safe and healthy. As always, we are here to support you and we truly appreciate your support of Cleora.
